CALIFORNIA RED-SIDED GARTER SNAKE
THAMNOPHIS SIRTALIS INFERNALI
The California Red-Sided Garter Snake is a slender snake and smaller than most garter snakes native to Northern California. Females only grow to about 3 feet in length and males typically grow to about 2 feet in length. Males are significantly thinner than females
Juveniles are born yellow and with faint colors, which grow increasingly brighter as the snake matures and sheds. The red color is most dominant on the head of the snake.
California Red-Sided Garter Snakes like to feed on a variety of insects like leeches and earthworms. They are also known to eat eggs, small fish and amphibians.
