BLUE STRIPED GRUNT

HAEMULON SCIURUS

Its common name comes from its blue stripes and from its habit of grunting by grinding its pharyngeal teeth.


The Blue Striped Grunt commonly grows to a length of 20 to 25 cm (8 to 10 inches), and its maximum recorded length is 46 cm (18 inches).


The Blue Striped Grunt is found in shallow water, at depths between 1 and 40 m.


Did you know?

Adults form small groups over coral and rocky substrates, especially near drop offs. The juveniles are abundant in shallow turtle grass beds.

LEAST CONCERN (LC):
Less likely to become endangered anytime soon.
